Lawton is the third largest city in the state. Lawton serves a prominent shopping, medical, recreational, educational and religious center for the region. It is the retail and distribution center for the areas cattle, dairy and agricultural industries. In addition, Lawton/Fort Sill is the home of several manufacturing and processing companies and is continually working toward expansion of existing industries and acquisition of new ones.

City Government
Lawton operates under a City Council - City Manager form of government. The Council consists of the Mayor and eight council members, all elected. They, in turn, hire a City Manager. The City Council meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month and meetings are televised locally.

County Government
Comanche County is governed by three County Commissioners, all elected, who meet weekly to manage the county's affairs. Lawton Public Schools are governed by a five member School Board, all elected. Their monthly meetings are also televised.

Automobile Registration
New residents to the state are required to obtain an Oklahoma driver's license and register their vehicle upon establishing residency. The Department of Public Safety is located near the intersection of Gore Boulevard and Interstate-44. Call (580) 353-6550 or (580) 355-3810 for information.

Public Schools
Lawton's outstanding public primary and secondary school system includes 35 elementary schools, four junior high schools, and three high schools. The Lawton Public Schools office is located at753 NW Fort Sill Boulevard (580-357-6900).

Cameron University is a multi-purpose university with a mission to offer appropriate educational programs to the people living in its service area of the eleven counties of southwest Oklahoma. One of Oklahoma's seven regional universities, Cameron offers Associate, Bachelor, and Master's degree programs. Cameron is located at 2800 West Gore Boulevard.

Great Plains Technology Center (Formerly Great Plains Area Vo-Tech)
The Great Plains Technology Center provides both full-time and part-time night classes in a variety of business, technical, industrial, health, marketing and other high demand fields. Lawton/Fort Sill daily newspaper is the Lawton Constitution which delivers almost 30,000 copies daily. The Lawton Constitution is located at 102 SW 3rd Street.

Our local television station is KSWO-TV 7, an ABC affiliate. Other stations available for viewing in Lawton/Fort Sill include KAUZ-TV 5, a CBS affiliate, and KJTL-TV 18, the Fox network.
